Probate Fees
Probate fees, which can also be called estate or probate taxes, are fees imposed by the court or government for the processing of a deceased person’s estate. Probate fees can vary by jurisdiction; some may require a flat fee for the probate process while others might be calculated as a percentage of the value of the deceased person’s estate. In some places, an estate that falls below a certain threshold may be exempt from probate fees.
It’s up to the executor of the estate to ensure any probate fees are paid.
